Asian Handicap
American Football
A points spread applied to level the contest. The favorite gives points and the underdog receives them, turning the game into a two-way market. Fractional lines allow for pushes and half-wins when the final margin of victory equals the handicap line.
mechanics
- Half-point lines (±0.5, ±1.5, ±2.5…): always a clean win or full loss. Spreads with a half-point (e.g. −6.5) are common in American football to eliminate push possibilities.
- Whole-number line (e.g. −7): if the favorite wins by exactly 7, both parts of a quarter-line split push. A straight whole-number line pushes on an exact margin.
- Example — Home −6.5: the home team must win by 7+ points. A 6-point win (e.g. 17–11) loses the bet.
- Settlement uses the full-game score including all overtime periods.
